CCMC Ionospheric Score Board Abstract
This project aims to develop a web application for visualizing model validation results of ionospheric and magnetospheric models hosted by the Community Coordinated Modeling Center (CCMC). The application improves accessibility to validation results and provides clear statistical analyses of each model’s strengths and weaknesses, aiding future model enhancements. Observational data from ground-based GNSS TEC and FORMOSAT-7/COSMIC-2 satellites are used to evaluate the statistical performance of data assimilation, physics-based, and empirical models. Currently, the application hosts model validation results for total electron content during the 2013 March and 2021 November storms. Additionally, it includes critical frequency (foF2) and peak height (hmF2) of the F2 layer for 12 models during the 2021 November storm. Future expansions will incorporate more storm events and a GNSS model validation campaign, further advancing the assessment and development of ionospheric models.
