Description
Session on how the radiation belts are affected by magnetotail phenomena, such as the impact of substorms or particle injections from the magnetotail on radiation belt activity. This includes the impact on particle dynamics, plasma wave activity and system-wide variation in the radiation belt environment. The session format will be a series of oral presentations and group discussion.
Justification
The objective of the RB-SoS focus group is to evaluate the coupling between the radiation belts and other plasma populations in near-Earth space. A dedicated session soliciting talks related to the coupling between the magnetotail and radiation belts is key to achieving this objective.
